Winter is a quiet time for lawns. Growth slows down, and your lawn mower gets a bit of rest. It also means it’s a great time for us to get a really good look at your lawn to assess its health and make a management plan to keep it looking its best over the following 12 months.

Moss spraying and fertilising
Total Lawn Solutions has Christchurch’s only dedicated lawn moss spraying kit, with a 100 metre hose that has no problem reaching lawns with difficult access – looking at you Sumner hills. 😁
We use a special dual-action spray that contains both a moss killer and a fertiliser. Spraying will kill the moss that inhibits grass growth, and fertilising will bring in lush, dark green grass in the spring.
You might be wondering why we haven’t mentioned lawn weed spraying? We don’t spray weeds in winter because they aren’t growing, so systemic weed killers don’t work.
Lime treatment
A targeted lime treatment can be a game-changer for your lawn by reducing its pH. Acidic soil is a lot more prone to weeds, and it can cause other issues that grass doesn’t like, so treating the soil with lime to get the pH level down can pay big dividends in the spring and summer.
Soil aeration
A treat that we often give lawns alongside moss spraying, fertilising, and lime is soil aeration. To do this we use a solid tine aerator. Although it sounds a bit harsh, your lawn will love it. By punching solid metal spikes (tines) deep into the turf our solid tine aerator improves oxygen and water flow, and encourages healthy root growth.
